The Jury’s summary
When we (Cecilie Størkson, Thomas Kilpper and Rita Marhaug) accepted to be Jury members
for HIT 2019, Open Call, we were unaware of the magnitude of interest and the level of quality and professionality this opportunity would deliver.
Nearly 700 applications later, we can state that artists from all over the world would like to participate and contribute for a diverse presentation of today’s woodcut technique. The jury has chosen works from 150 artists who celebrate both tradition and innovation in various styles, all produced the within the last two the years.
The selection comes from as far away as north of Norway to the south of Australia, and from China to the United States. The response from artists that reside in Norway are also shown in the jury’s choice. We think this reflects an active art environment and production level in the
country that delivers good and relevant quality art.
We are now looking forward to meeting the original artworks for the final choice of prize winner. The selection from Open Call and the list of invited artists indicated an unbelievable
number of many good candidates!
On behalf of the jury,
